Kim Garnet (guest star Carly Schroeder) is teased by her classmates about something she did and ends up tripping and falling down the stairs. The Special Victims Unit is brought in after a doctor's examination discovers that she has been a victim of physical abuse. There are two suspects: boyfriend Steve Walker (guest star Alexander Nifong) and a friend from school named Ethan Morse (guest star Ezra Miller) who has a bad temper, and one of them beats Kim up to influence her testimony. She will not disclose who it is in court, and Judge Hilda Marsden (guest star Swoosie Kurtz) therefore declares her in contempt and she is jailed. Kathleen Stabler (guest star Allison Siko) is brought in by Benson to give Kim advice, and she admits that Steve Walker thought she was having an affair with Ethan, so he sent the sexts in response. At trial, both sides agree to drop the charges, but Marsden disagrees and sentences Kim to one year in a facility in Ohio for sex offenders. After an investigation into Marsden's record, Olivia and Miranda Pond are denied documents, then arrested on contempt while confronting Marsden. The prosecutor, initially reluctant, sides with them and alerts Cragen who frees them. After bail and gaining info from a court officer involved in the scheme, it is revealed that she has been accepting bribes as well as turning small-time offenses into felonies. A sting is set up with Stabler giving Marsden a bribe, Ethan (who is into acting) taking on the role of the defendant, and Dr. Huang as the defense lawyer. The operation is a success, Marsden is caught and taken into custody, and Kim is released with her record cleared.
