Plot

Divergent is a 2014 science fiction film that is based on the trilogy novel of Veronica Roth with the same title. The movie stars Shailene Woodley as Beatrice "Tris" Prior, Theo James as Tobias "Four" Eaton, Ansel Elgort as Caleb Prior, Ray Stevenson as Marcus Eaton, Kate Winslet as Jeanine Matthews, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Maggie Q as Tori, Jai Courtney as Eric, Miles Teller as Peter, Ben Lamb as Edward, Mekhi Phifer as Max, Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Will, Christian Madsen as Al, Tony Goldwyn as Andrew Prior, Ashley Judd as Natalie Prior, Amy Newbold as Molly Atwood and Justine Wachsberger as Lauren. The film is set in a futuristic time in Chicago where people are divided into 5 distinct factions based on their personalities. Beatrice "Tris" Prior (Woodley) discovers that she is Divergent, meaning she does not fit into any one group, and soon uncovers a sinister plot brewing in her seemingly perfect society wherein it involves destroying all Divergents under the leadership of Jeanine Matthews, the faction leader. Now, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it is too late.
